Fully remote Data hires from Dataworks

About PrestaShop

With nearly 300,000 sites already using its software across the globe, PrestaShop is the leading open-source ecommerce solution in Europe and Latin America. The company aims to become the reference commerce platform for the growth of businesses around the world.

PrestaShop allows companies to easily deploy their business on a larger scale thanks to their suite of products that offers hosting solutions, secure payment solutions worldwide, as well as performance analysis and web marketing.

In 2021, PrestaShop sites generated more than 24 billion euros in online sales.

The Assignment

PrestaShop’s suite of products relies heavily on a strong back-end architecture and a team of specialist data engineers and architects. As the company was developing new products and growing into new territories, the workload on the current team (1 Data Architect and 2 Data Engineers) increased and the need to hire a new experienced Data Engineer was apparent.

The required skills seemed straightforward from the start: the ideal candidate would need an expertise with Python, a strong grasp of Google Cloud Platform, an experience with distributed computing (ideally with Spark). On top of the technical requirement, PrestaShop was looking for the right personality, and the ability to work in English and in French in a fully remote setup.

Why Dataworks?

As with many recruitment projects, PrestaShop initially looked to find this new talent on their own and utilised part of their internal acquisition team on the project. A few candidates made it to the first round of interviews but none would pass the technical test stage.

PrestaShop then looked to engage one of their previously-used recruitment agencies. However, they failed to deliver any results and a few months later the search began for a new agency. PrestaShop was looking for a new partner with proven expertise on Data & Tech hires, and thanks to a recommendation via their network, the Talent Acquisition Manager gave Dataworks this first project. A week after Dataworks took the brief, a diversified candidate shortlist was sent out. Out of those 6 profiles, 1 was hired 3 weeks later.

Client testimonial

It was a real pleasure to work with Wesley and Dataworks, as always. He managed to unblock a research project that we had been working on for over a year, which had already been reviewed by no less than 5 internal recruiters.
He is professional and deeply understood the needs and working style of our manager. He has been a true ally, both for our manager and for us on the recruitment side.
He was able to quickly send us relevant candidates from the Dataworks network. He conducted thorough follow-ups during the hiring process without being too pushy. He also adapted to our ways of working and communicating.
This is the second time I have worked with Wesley on Data positions, and it is always a pleasure to do so, both because of the human approach he brings and the quick results we achieve.

Approach

Dataworks took on this project with confidence as they were working on similar roles for other companies and had an active network of relevant candidates.

The first step on this search was to get back in touch with every candidate they had been in a process with over the last few weeks to see if they were still available.

Then, they launched a new search from scratch and a marketing campaign to attract new profiles. The 6 candidates sent for this opportunity came from a mix of sources: 3 from our current network, 1 from an online ad, and 2 from headhunting calls/emails.

Once the shortlist was completed, Dataworks followed up with candidates throughout their interview processes and fed back to PrestaShop on which candidates were the most committed and motivated.

At the end of the process, there were 2 profiles that were a fit and PrestaShop decided to offer one candidate and keep the other one as a backup. Thanks to a transparent process and clear expectations from the start, the first candidate accepted his offer that same day and started at the company a month later.
