The Assignment

W International is embarking on a companywide ERP and BI transformation program where they are placing the modern data stack front and center.

Reporting to the current Head of Business intelligence, they wanted to hire a hands-on technical Analytics engineer who had the experience of implementing new tools and technologies into a greenfield environment, and the experience of then scaling up and subsequently managing the newly formed engineering team.

Why Dataworks?

W International has been managing the recruitment for this hire for a few months but had failed to identify anyone that had the experience, and the desire to relocate to South Carolina. This led to them looking for a specialist talent partner with the expertise and knowledge of the Data and BI market and taking on projects of this nature.

They wanted guidance, and support to define the job requirements, interview process, technical testing, and vetting.  Using our expertise, we managed to present a shortlist and manage this process to a successful completion (contract signed) within 25 days of receiving the job brief.

The Role

Analytics Engineer with strong technical skills in the modern data stack, as well as excellent stakeholder management experience.

Approach

W International wanted a partner with available candidates who were open to full relocation, as this was a non-negotiable requirement for the person.

We adopted a multi-channel approach to this search, utilizing our own candidate network(CRM), Linkedin, direct advertising, and targeted headhunts.

We needed to ensure that whilst the relocation element was important, the candidates still needed to stack up technically.  We subsequently built out a custom technical assessment in collaboration with the hiring manager at W.

This ensured that all candidates had the right level of technical skills prior to confirming any final interviews.

The tech stack consisted of  Azure, DBT, and PowerBI.
